Less is more - the art of acting for the camera

Several years ago 2020 embarked upon the first ever acting classes especially devised for background artistes.

The course was a resounding success and received comments such as "very exciting!", "there is no other course like this one!", "at last, a course for people like us!" and "Whenever I go for castings, I feel much more confident, more sure of myself and what ever they ask to do, I can do more easily thanks to the 2020 acting classes."

The aim of the course, entitled Less is More, is to create, through work focused on film and television, background artistes able to offer a more realistic and professional service, which will lead to more featured work and greater earning ability.

Some of the topics covered by main the course are:

Introduction
A knowledge of what the course will entail and exercises to establish a basic freedom.

Unlocking the imagination
Finding the ability to think creatively and to make brave choices without feeling foolish.

Voice & movement work
Establish discipline and control over the most important tools of your trade.

Intentions
Making definite choices as to what your character needs in a scene and the ability to act on it.

Knowing yourself
Understanding your individual strengths and characteristics and how they affect your casting.

Commercial casting
A Casting Director will set up a mock casting scenario to give guidance and confidence with how the casting process works.

Sight-reading
Making definite spur of the moment decisions when confronted with a sight-reading in a casting.

Q & A session with working actors
Your chance to throw questions at a selection of well-known actors within the industry.

Rehearsal of showcase scenes
Working through material from a pre-chosen source to discover the dynamic of a scene, how the individual character choices affect and serve it, and the benefits of line actioning.

Camera work - Rehearsing and recording
Encouraging people to become more at ease with themselves and their image in front of a camera.
